SOURCE & METHODOLOGYUnemployment RatesCivilian Labor Force: Total number of persons (non-institutionalized or not on active duty in the Armed Forces) who are 16 years of age or older and either employed or unemployed. Persons Employed: Total number of employed persons in the civilian labor force. Persons Unemployed: Total number of unemployed persons in the civilian labor force. Unemployment Rate: The number of unemployed persons as a percentage of the civilian labor force. Unemployment Rate, Percent of U.S. Average: This value is computed by dividing the unemployment rate of a county, state, or region by the national average. Three–Year Average Unemployment Rate: The three–year average unemployment rate is a measure of long–term structural unemployment. The unemployment rate is calculated by dividing the three–year sum of persons unemployed by the three–year sum of the civilian labor force and expressing the result as a percentage. Three–Year Average Unemployment Rate, Percent of U.S. Average: This value is computed by dividing the three–year average unemployment rate of a county, state, or region by the national three–year average and expressing the result as a percentage.
